Office 2013–SP1 Now Required

In the last several customer engagements, there has been a trend to not install updates for Office 2013.  Some admins thought that there was no service pack available, and others thought that the RTM build of Office 2013 was still in support.  Unfortunately neither are correct viewpoints.

This means that you now need to have Office 2013 SP1 deployed on all relevant machines, as the … Read the rest “Office 2013–SP1 Now Required”

Windows 10 Laptop Not Charging After Enabling Airplane Mode

One of my colleagues emailed with an issue on their laptop.  After travelling to the customer location, his power supply had “died” as it was not charging the machine.  This was a Lenovo W541 with the new rectangular power connector, which meant there were no spares readily available.

Later that day when I arrived at my hotel, my W541 did the same thing.  Chances of two laptops from … Read the rest “Windows 10 Laptop Not Charging After Enabling Airplane Mode”

Install Desktop Experience – Windows Server 2012 R2

This is an updated version of the original Windows Server 2012 post.  The genesis of which was an application requirement to install Media Player onto a couple of servers.  This met with some muttering and cursing from my colleague in the nearby fabric covered box, as the option to install the Desktop Experience feature is not as obvious as it was on Windows 2008 R2 which is highlighted … Read the rest “Install Desktop Experience – Windows Server 2012 R2”

Office 365 Mailbox Migration – Target Mailbox Doesn‎’t Have An SMTP Proxy Matching

When migrating mailboxes from on-premises Exchange to Office 365, we can run into the error where the migration fails with an error stating that the target mailbox doesn’t have an SMTP proxy matching the Microsoft Online Routing Domain.

This can happen due to a number of causes.  For example the mailbox is managed by an Email Address Policy (EAP) that was not updated with the online routing domain.… Read the rest “Office 365 Mailbox Migration – Target Mailbox Doesn‎’t Have An SMTP Proxy Matching”

AzureVM Static IP Does Not Persist

It is possible to configure a “static” IP on your Azure IAAS VMs.  This is something that we looked at in a previous post.  One thing worth pointing out is that there is a little wrinkle with the current implementation, and you may run into unexpected results.

Static IP assignment in Azure VMs is not the same as configuring a typical static IP for a server in your on-pre… Read the rest “AzureVM Static IP Does Not Persist”

Add-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupServer – You Must Provide A Value For This Property

When creating a new Database Availability Group, there was a bit of rude shock when the installation failed.  This customer had deployed multiple Exchange 2010 DAGs over the lifespan of the product, yet their latest build ran into an issue.  They were able to create the DAG, but when adding the first mailbox server to the DAG, the operation failed.

This was not due to an underlying issue where the W… Read the rest “Add-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupServer – You Must Provide A Value For This Property”

How To Set Static IP On Azure VM

Azure now offers the capability to configure static IPs onto IAAS VMs.  Static IP assignment in Azure VMs is not the same as configuring a typical static IP for a server in your on-premises network.  When you statically assign an IP address to the Azure VM, it is not entered into the VMs machine’s TCP/IP configuration property sheet.  Rather a reservation is created, so that DHCP ha… Read the rest “How To Set Static IP On Azure VM”

Delivery Failed From Office 365 Mailbox To On-Premises Exchange Mailbox

Delivery Failed From Office 365 Mailbox To On-Premises Exchange Mailbox

In an Exchange 2010 SP3 Hybrid deployment with Office 365, a client noted that they were unable to send email from their Office 365 mailbox to an on-premises mailboxes.  The user in Office 365 received an undeliverable message stating that Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups and the email address wasn’t found at the destination domain.    That was not the case as there certainly was … Read the rest “Delivery Failed From Office 365 Mailbox To On-Premises Exchange Mailbox”
