Windows 10 Poor Graphics Performance – Part Deux

Things were running great with my new machine a Lenovo W541 until recently.  When browsing email in Outlook it would take several seconds to collapse/expand folders and when selecting an email to read it took several seconds to render the view.  Highly frustrating.

As noted in a previous post and a semi-related one related to Outlook displaying corrupted information, one of the first things to revie… Read the rest “Windows 10 Poor Graphics Performance – Part Deux”

Office 2013–SP1 Now Required

In the last several customer engagements, there has been a trend to not install updates for Office 2013.  Some admins thought that there was no service pack available, and others thought that the RTM build of Office 2013 was still in support.  Unfortunately neither are correct viewpoints.

This means that you now need to have Office 2013 SP1 deployed on all relevant machines, as the … Read the rest “Office 2013–SP1 Now Required”

Outlook Prompts For Domain Certificate Unexpectedly

Outlook Prompt Domain Name Certificate

Ran into an issue where this Outlook 2010 SP2 client, build 14.0.7113.5000, was throwing up unexpected certificate errors for the domain.  This is the Tailspintoys.ca domain.

User-1@tailspintoys.ca was complaining about the below certificate error:

Outlook Unexpectedly Prompts For Domain Root Certificate

Looking at the error message, the fact that it is the domain (tailspintoys.ca), and not a FQDN is a hint.  More on that later…

Unable to Reply to Old Emails Due to legacyExchangeDN

This is one of those ye olde issues that keep coming back up in Exchange.  Have you every removed a mailbox, re-created it with the exact same SMTP address and then some people complain that they cannot send to the mailbox?

This can happen in a few circumstances.  For example if the Exchange administrator has an “oops”  and accidently deletes the account.  If they do not use the AD DS recycle bin f… Read the rest “Unable to Reply to Old Emails Due to legacyExchangeDN”

Outlook 2013 Distorted Display Issues

After a recent video driver update, my corporate Outlook client started to do some strange things.  Within Office 2013, the screen output would be distorted.  Menu bars were not painted properly until I mouse-over them again, or moved Office programs around.  Other times the display would look corrupted and the navigation tree would not be properly rendered.

Outlook Unable To Connect To Exchange –Default Gateway Not Found

When doing some recent customer work for Exchange 2013, I ran into an annoying issue in one of my labs.  Outlook 2013 refused to connect to Exchange 2013.   A witch hunt then ensued to ensure that all of my Outlook Anywhere, Autodiscover and authentication settings were correct.  Well it turns out that they were, and this was just a client side issue.  Legacy IIS permissions when coexisting with E… Read the rest “Outlook Unable To Connect To Exchange –Default Gateway Not Found”
