For details on the updated support position please see this post on the Exchange Team Blog.  This means that the HCW built into the Exchange 2010 product is not to be used, and should now be considered unsupported.

Exchange 2013 Workshop Links – January 2016

Canadian Parliament - Peace TowerThis is link throw down for items that we discussed in a Exchange 2013 workshop which I delivered in Ottawa, Canada’s capital.   The weather was pretty warm, the adjacent picture of parliament was on a bright Saturday morning when the temperature was a crisp –15 Celsius.

For those who want to convert to Fahrenheit, I’ll let you get on with that in your own time.

There was a cause for concern as the … Read the rest “Exchange 2013 Workshop Links – January 2016”

Controlling Exchange 2013/2016 Proxying To Exchange 2010

Exchange 2013 streamlined the connectivity between servers with the “every server is an island” design philosophy.  The intent was to remove the strict version dependency hooks which existed in the previous versions of Exchange.  For example, the Exchange 2007 HUB Store Driver can only communicate with the Exchange 2007 Mailbox role.  Conversely, the Exchange 2010 HUB Store Driver can only communi… Read the rest “Controlling Exchange 2013/2016 Proxying To Exchange 2010”

Heidy The Skype Squirrel

This is one of those silly but intriguing things that is worth sharing.  When delivering some internal training over Skype I noticed that some of the emoticons have names I did not expect.

Skype for Business introduced some really nice emoticons.  The below image is from the 2016 version of the client, showing the emoticons I currently have available.

How To Easily Add Public Folder Replicas To Exchange 2010

Exchange 2007 onwards contain a treasure trove of built in scripts to help administer the system.  These scripts are listed in TechNet and are found under the Exchange installation path in the scripts folder.  Yes – somewhat unsurprisingly.

Restart Exchange 2010 CAS And Authentication Prompts

There are multiple causes for Outlook clients to receive authentication prompts.  This can be caused by impaired AD performance where the DCs are negatively impacted and cannot respond quickly.  This can be caused by semaphore timeouts, due to NTLM bottlenecks.  In Exchange 2010 the CAS Array uses NTLM by default, and the recommendation is to use Kerberos.

Sometimes the authentication prompts may be… Read the rest “Restart Exchange 2010 CAS And Authentication Prompts”
